Wedding Planning Advice from Sarah Brehant Events
A planner’s role goes far beyond aesthetics and beautiful decor. They are integral in helping couples with the following aspects of a wedding day:
- Design and execute your overall vision
- Build and manage a realistic, well-paced timeline
- Coordinate vendors and logistics
- Keep the day running smoothly and on schedule
- Create space for you to remain present and connected
When timelines are handled and details are managed, couples are free to fully experience their wedding day—without distraction.
Sarah Brehant Events, a New England based Wedding Planning Business has kindly offered her input and advice on how to approach wedding planning and design, as well as where to save and splurge.

01. Your venue is your design. You can't change your venue so make sure you choose one that lends to your vision! So many couples come to us with a vision of garden wedding or a coastal tented wedding. If they book a ballroom, we can certainly bring these beautiful details in but it still would lend better to their overall aesthetic if it was a garden venue or a coastal venue to begin with. Starting with the right venue will help you to save money in the long run.
02. Don't follow trends; stick with timeless options in which you will still love in twenty years.
03. Splurge on the flowers! Flowers, chairs and linen make the biggest impact. Don't use in-house linen, instead upgrade your linen to elevate your design. The creases and linens that don't fit the tables properly cheapen the design. We love working with patterns and textures and different textiles to create layers of interest. Chairs also make an amazing impact because there are so many, so if you don't like your chairs, they need to go!
04. If your budget is strict, don't splurge on anything that isn't necessary until you are confident you have the extra funds (lounges, large signage, decorating an area that isn't ceremony or reception space etc.)
05. Choose details that speak to who you are as a couple. Find inspiration in your home, your favorite hotel lobby, a piece of fabric that means something to you. Share this with your wedding planner!
All in all, stay true to yourself. Pick your design and try not to get lost in searching through Pinterest and Instagram for different inspiration - it'll drive you nuts!
